Pericardiocentesis by an AirMedicalService for Cardiac Tamponade Caused by Purulent Pericarditis. This case presentation describes the clinical management and course of an adult patient found to be in cardiac tamponade secondary to purulent pericarditis. This etiology represents an uncommon cause of pericardial tamponade and highlights the importance of recognizing clinical signs
generally across all conditions, including non-trauma. We conducted a retrospective observational study using a pre-established cohort of sequentially enrolled patients from a regional airmedicalservice between the years 2012 and 2021. Pediatric patients, non-transports, and those transported to hospitals outside the regional health system were excluded from the study. Both trauma and non-trauma
score.MethodsA 5-year retrospective analysis (2015-2019) of highest-activation adult trauma patients arriving to a quaternary Level I trauma center by hospital-based helicopter airmedicalservice (HEMS) was performed. Demographic, prehospital, ED triage, and blood product utilization data were collected. Prehospital ABC score was calculated using the highest heart rate, lowest systolic blood pressure
ambulance remains the primary means of out-of-hospital and interfacility patient transport. * The helicopter offers several advantages over other transport vehicles, including reducing travel time by up to 75%, ability to avoid common ground delays (traffic, obstacles,), and ability to fly into locations that may be inaccessible to other modes of travel. * All airmedicalservices require involvement ! (If you want the historical perspective and current trends check out the chapter!)Core questions[1]List 6 criteria for air medical transport * Although virtually all types of patients have been transported by airmedicalservices, available data do not allow prospective, identification of which patients will benefit from flight. * The data is controversial and limited; but here are a few situations
sustained a single gunshot wound to the left chest and was found to have a shock index of 1.5 at the time of emergency medical services (EMS) arrival. Rapid peripheral intravenous and central venous access enabled the infusion of warmed low-titer O-positive whole blood. The EMS crew intentionally resuscitated the patient before managing the airway by means of rapid sequence intubation. An airmedicalservices helicopter crew assumed patient care from the ground EMS crew and continued the warmed, whole blood transfusion during the flight to a regional Level I trauma center. The patient went directly to the operating room from the helipad, underwent definitive operative management, and was ultimately discharged home on hospital day nine. In the 30 days preceding the survey, 69.4% (n = 10,924) of respondents received at least one type of feedback with 54.7% (n = 8,592) reporting receiving medical care feedback. Characteristics and Outcomes of Blood Product Transfusion During Critical Care Transport. Civilian out-of-hospital transfusions have not been adequately studied. This study seeks to characterize patients receiving out-of-hospital blood product transfusion during critical care transport. We studied patients transported by a regional critical care air-medicalservice who received blood products
of the 261 HEMS programs nationwide listed in the 2011 Atlas and Database of AirMedicalServices (ADAMS) database. We examined blood-carrying practices in aggregate, including typical transport time, proportion of scene transports, and local population density. A GIS (Geographic Information System) and multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the impact of characteristics of local
, and patient-related factors related to the delivery of RIPC during air medical transport of STEMI patients to tertiary pPCI centers. We performed a retrospective review of procedural outcomes of a cohort of STEMI patients who received RIPC as part of a clinical protocol in a multi-state airmedicalservice over 16 months (March 2013 to June 2014). Eligible patients were transported to two tertiary PCI

The Effect of Shift Length on Fatigue and Cognitive Performance in Air Medical Providers. To employ a battery of previously validated surveys and neuropsychological tests to compare changes in fatigue and cognitive abilities of air medical providers after 12- and 24-hour shifts. A convenience sample of 34 flight nurses and flight paramedics employed by one airmedicalservice completed in cognitive scores did not differ between groups. This study identified no changes in cognitive performance following 12- and 24-hour shifts in air medical providers. This suggests that 24-hour shifts in an airmedicalservice with low to moderate utilization do not have a detrimental effect on cognition as measured by this test battery, and are comparable to 12-hour shifts in terms of impact on cognitive

By 1996, it was the first program to be re-accredited and the first to be accredited for critical-care ground transport.[19] In 2000, it was selected as the Program of the Year by the Association of AirMedicalServices. It received the Helicopter World/Air heliport commemorates the dedication and sacrifice of the crew.References[edit] 1. ^ Ferguson, Jeffrey (October–December 2008). "What's Going on at EastCare?"
