Maladaptive daydreaming should be included as a dissociativedisorder in psychiatric manuals: position paper. Maladaptive daydreaming is a distinct syndrome in which the main symptom is excessive vivid fantasising that causes clinically significant distress and functional impairment in academic, vocational and social domains. Unlike normal daydreaming, maladaptive daydreaming is persistent for the phenomenology of the symptoms. Whereas non-specific therapy is ineffective, targeted treatment seems promising. Thus, we propose that maladaptive daydreaming be considered a formal syndrome in psychiatric taxonomies, positioned within the dissociativedisorders category. Maladaptive daydreaming satisfactorily meets criteria for conceptualisation as a psychiatric syndrome, including reliable discrimination
Effect of locosamide as an add-on therapy in the management of dissociativedisorders. The role of lacosamide (LCM) as add on treatment modality in dissociativedisorders (DD) is of interest. It was a randomized control trial in which 300 patients diagnosed with dissociativedisorders having treatment for the dissociativedisorders were included. They were divided into two groups. Group one consisted of intervention group in which LCM was also administered along with conventional psychiatric medication for different dissociativedisorders. Group two consisted of control group where the patients of dissociativedisorders were found to have conventional medication. There was analysis of improvements in recovery of symptoms and quality of life. There was statistically significant increase
Trauma, Emotional Regulation, and Coping Styles in Individuals with and without Probable DissociativeDisorders in Hong Kong. Previous studies showed that dissociation and dissociativedisorders (DDs) are prevalent and are associated with considerable individual and social consequences. There are ongoing debates regarding whether dissociation is a response to betrayal trauma across cultures
Prevalence and clinical correlates of dissociative symptoms in people with complex PTSD: Is complex PTSD a dissociativedisorder? The extent to which complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) can be conceptualized as a dissociativedisorder remains an ongoing debate. This study investigated the prevalence and correlates of dissociative symptoms in people with C-PTSD. We analyzed baseline had a unique association with depressive symptoms and work and social impairments in our participants with C-PTSD, even after controlling for trauma exposure and C-PTSD symptoms. The data does not support the theory that C-PTSD is a dissociativedisorder. However, the findings highlight the importance of recognizing dissociation in people with C-PTSD.
Group treatment for complex dissociativedisorders: a randomized clinical trial. Patients with complex dissociativedisorders (CDD) report high levels of childhood- abuse experiences, clinical comorbidity, functional impairment, and treatment utilization. Although a few naturalistic studies indicate that these patients can benefit from psychotherapy, no randomized controlled trials have been in the primary outcome. Similar results were observed for secondary outcomes. Within-group effects were non-significant in both conditions from baseline to end of treatment, but significant improvements in psychosocial function, PTSD symptoms, and general psychopathology were observed over a 6-months follow-up period. In the first randomized controlled trial for the treatment of complex dissociativedisorders
Dissociation and DissociativeDisorders Reconsidered: Beyond Sociocognitive and Trauma Models Toward a Transtheoretical Framework. For more than 30 years, the posttraumatic model (PTM) and the sociocognitive model (SCM) of dissociation have vied for attention and empirical support. We contend that neither perspective provides a satisfactory account and that dissociation and dissociativedisorders
Visual search in ADHD, ASD and ASD + ADHD: overlapping or dissociatingdisorders? Recent debates in the literature discuss commonalities between Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at multiple levels of putative causal networks. This debate requires systematic comparisons between these disorders that have been studied in isolation in the past
Differential executive functioning in the topology of Spirit possession or dissociativedisorders: an explorative cultural study. In Oman, anecdotal and impressionistic observation have helped parse and categorize various manifestations of spirit possession into two broad and distinct categories: intermittent dissociative phenomenon and transitory dissociative phenomenon. The primary aim
The enemy in the mirror: self-perception-induced stress results in dissociation of psychological and physiological responses in patients with dissociativedisorder : Patients suffering from dissociativedisorders (DD) are characterized by an avoidance of aversive stimuli. Clinical experience has shown that DD patients typically avoid the confrontation with their own faces in a mirror (CFM
Disconnected – Impaired Interoceptive Accuracy and Its Association With Self-Perception and Cardiac Vagal Tone in Patients With DissociativeDisorder Patients suffering from dissociativedisorders are characterized by an avoidance of aversive stimuli. This includes the avoidance of emotions and, in particular, bodily perceptions. In the present pilot study, we explored the potential interoceptive accuracy deficit of patients suffering from dissociativedisorders in a heartbeat detection task. Moreover, we investigated the impact of facial mirror-confrontation on interoceptive accuracy and the potential association between cardiac vagal tone derived from heart rate variability and interoceptive accuracy. Eighteen patients suffering from dissociativedisorders and 18 healthy controls were
Trauma-related altered states of consciousness in post-traumatic stress disorder patients with or without comorbid dissociativedisorders : The four-dimensional ('4-D') model has been proposed as a theoretical framework to understand and delineate trauma-related dissociative experiences, categorizing symptoms into trauma-related altered states of consciousness (TRASC) and normal waking consciousness (NWC), which occur along four dimensions: time, thought, body and emotion. : The main aim of the present study was to evaluate the validity of this model in patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), with and without comorbid dissociativedisorders. : The predictions of the 4-D model were tested in 142 patients with PTSD, with ( = 46) and without ( = 96) comorbid dissociativedisorders
Assessing therapeutic change in patients with severe dissociativedisorders: the progress in treatment questionnaire, therapist and patient measures : Treatment research for dissociative identity disorder (DID) and closely related severe dissociativedisorders (DD) is rare, and has been made more difficult by the lack of a reliable, valid measure for assessing treatment progress
Six-year follow-up of the treatment of patients with dissociativedisorders study* : Literature on the treatment of dissociativedisorders (DDs) suggests that these individuals require long-term and specialized treatment to achieve stabilization and functionality. There is considerable empirical support for specialized phasic, dissociation-focused treatment in reducing a myriad of psychological symptoms and self-harm in this population. However, until recently, there has been a paucity of longitudinal treatment research on DD patients. : In the present six-year follow-up study, 61 therapists who participated in the initial phase of the Treatment of Patients with DissociativeDisorders (TOP DD) study answered questionnaires about their study patient's stressors, quality of life, global
Treatment of dissociativedisorders and reported changes in inpatient and outpatient cost estimates Interpersonal trauma and trauma-related disorders cost society billions of dollars each year. Because of chronic and severe trauma histories, dissociativedisorder (DD) patients spend many years in the mental health system, yet there is limited knowledge about the economic burden associated
Self-Injury and Suicide Attempt in Relation with Trauma and Dissociation among Adolescents with Dissociative and Non-DissociativeDisorders To explore the role of trauma and dissociation over self-injurious behaviors (SIB) and suicide attempts (SA) in adolescents. A total of 207 adolescents participated in the study. After conducting diagnostic interview, participants were divided into five groups as subjects with dissociativedisorders (DD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), major depressive disorder (MDD) and anxiety disorders (AD), and a control group (CG) without any psychiatric disorder. ADHD, MDD and AD groups were considered as non-dissociativedisorders (non-DD group) in the present study. There is no significant difference between groups in terms of number and age

Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis presenting as an acute psychotic episode misdiagnosed as dissociativedisorder: a case report In 2005, "anti--methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor encephalitis," a syndrome with prominent psychiatric symptoms, memory loss, decrease in level of consciousness, and central hypoventilation, was described in young women with ovarian teratomas and antibodies against deficit, fluctuating behavioral changes such as wandering and babbling, and seizure. She was admitted to the hospital with a provisional diagnosis of dissociativedisorder. Soon after admission, she developed aspiration pneumonia and was intubated for mechanical ventilation. She was transferred to our hospital for further assessment and admitted to the intensive care unit for ventilation. Laboratory
