Is it better to reduce the intervals between pulsed dye laser treatments for port wine stains in children? Laser Doppler Imaging based study. Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) is the treatment of choice of Port Wine Stains (PWS). Laser Doppler Imaging (LDI) has been used to evaluate the effectiveness of this treatment. In a previous study, we demonstrated that LDI allows an objective evaluation

After applying a mechanical stimulus to the anterior forearm of a healthy volunteer

Determination of a threshold compromise value for the perfusion index by laser Doppler imaging after digital revascularization. We have used laser Doppler imaging to monitor the microcirculation of replanted digits during the post-operative period in 103 patients who underwent either replantation after traumatic amputation or toe-to-finger reconstruction. The blood flow (perfusion unit) in each index was 0.828. We believe that by establishing a threshold, that laser Doppler imaging should provide a reliable and objective assessment for the development of perfusion compromise in revascularized digits.

Microvascular Response in Patients with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome as Measured by Laser Doppler Imaging Our aim was to investigate the hypothesis that microvascular dysfunction occurs in patients with CRPS. Specifically, whether there were functional differences in either deeper cutaneous blood vessels or more superficial nutritive vessels between the affected and unaffected limb in patients with CRPS, and between CRPS patients and healthy control subjects. Twenty-two patients with CRPS (five male; mean age 45 years; eight upper limb involvement, 14 lower limb) and 23 healthy control subjects (one male; 43 years) were recruited. Microvascular flow at affected and unaffected contralateral sites was measured, following local heating, using laser Doppler imaging (red/green wavelengths

Burn depth assessments by photoacoustic imaging and laser Doppler imaging. Diagnosis of burn depths is crucial to determine the treatment plan for severe burn patients. However, an objective method for burn depth assessment has yet to be established, although a commercial laser Doppler imaging (LDI) system is used limitedly. We previously proposed burn depth assessment based on photoacoustic

Cost-Effectiveness of Laser Doppler Imaging in Burn Care in The Netherlands: A Randomized Controlled Trial. In patients with burns, an early accurate diagnosis of burn depth facilitates optimal treatment. Laser Doppler imaging combined with clinical assessment leads to an accurate estimate of burn depth. However, the actual effects of the introduction of laser Doppler imaging on therapeutic decisions, clinical outcomes, and costs are unknown. A randomized controlled trial was conducted in the Dutch burn centers, including 202 patients with burns of indeterminate depth. In the standard care group, estimation of burn depth was based on clinical assessment only; in the laser Doppler imaging group, clinical assessment and laser Doppler imaging were combined. Primary outcome was time to wound

Caffeine consumption does not have an effect on digital microvascular perfusion assessed by laser doppler imaging on healthy volunteers: A pilot study. Caffeine is one of the most commonly consumed pharmacologically active ingredients in the Western world. It is postulated to cause peripheral vasoconstriction and decreased digital blood flow. As a result, many hand surgeons forbid caffeine

Comparison of Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging and Laser Doppler Imaging in Burn Patients Timely and accurate estimation of the surface area and depth of a burn injury is essential for determining an appropriate treatment modality. Inappropriate or inadequate treatment may result in complications and increased societal costs. Burn depth is determined by subjective assessing the characteristics of burn injury. Some objective methods are available (e.g., biopsy and histology, thermography and laser doppler imaging), but these are cumbersome. In assessing burn wounds, laser Doppler imaging (LDI) which has a good correlation with histology, is currently the most widely used and validated noninvasive measurement tool. In addition, it is the only technique that has been approved by the U.S. Food

Comparison of Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging and Laser Doppler Imaging The microcirculation plays a fundamental role in metabolic reactions and has been shown as an essential determinant in many clinical scenarios such as shock states, chronic and cardio-metabolic diseases. Microcirculation can be assessed directly using laser-based techniques and intravital microscopes. When combined with provocation tests, microvascular monitorization can be used to assess microvascular function.Laser-based techniques are consist of two different methods named laser doppler imaging (LDI), laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI). LSCI is a technique based on speckle contrast analysis that provides an index of blood flux. No need for skin contact, continuous and real-time assessment of the microcirculation led

Laser Doppler imaging in the detection of peripheral neuropathy. Small fiber neuropathy is common in a number of systemic diseases and is often challenging to diagnose. Laser Doppler imaging (LDI) is a test of small fiber neurovascular function that can quantify the integrity of the vasomotor C-fiber mediated axon-reflex, but no standardized method of analysis exists. We developed a novel LDI

Early accurate assessment of burn depth is important to determine the optimal treatment of burns. The method most used to determine burn depth is clinical assessment, which is the least expensive, but not the most accurate.Laser Doppler imaging (LDI) is a technique with which a more accurate (>95%) estimate of burn : Beverwijk, Groningen and Rotterdam. All patients treated as outpatient or admitted to a burn centre within 5 days post burn, with burns of indeterminate depth (burns not obviously superficial or full thickness) and a total body surface area burned of ≤ 20% are eligible. A total of 200 patients will be included. Burn depth will be diagnosed by both clinical assessment and laser Doppler imaging between 2-5

Direct comparison of laser Doppler flowmetry and laser Doppler imaging for assessment of experimentally-induced inflammation in human skin. Laser Doppler imaging (LDI) and laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) can measure localized skin perfusion. The purpose of the study was to directly compare LDF with LDI as a tool for measuring skin blood changes in an experimental model of chemically-induced skin

Sexual arousal in women with provoked vestibulodynia: the application of laser Doppler imaging to sexual pain. Introduction.  Women with provoked vestibulodynia (PVD) report lower sexual arousal than nonaffected women, however, laboratory studies of arousal have reported contradictory results about whether group differences exist in genital and subjective arousal. Aim.  To examine genital and subjective sexual arousal in women with and without PVD. Methods.  Eligible women with and without PVD (N = 42) attended a laboratory session that included an interview, questionnaire completion, and genital imaging. A direct measure of superficial blood flow-laser Doppler imaging-was used to assess vulvar blood flow levels while participants watched three films, including an erotic film. Participants
