Chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear mass casualty medicine: a review of lessons from the Salisbury and Amesbury Novichok nerve agent incidents. On March 4, 2018, two casualties collapsed on a park bench in Salisbury, Wiltshire, UK. They were later discovered to have been the victims of an attempted murder using the Soviet-era Novichok class of nerve agent. The casualties, along

Public responses to the Salisbury Novichok incident: a cross-sectional survey of anxiety, anger, uncertainty, perceived risk and avoidance behaviour in the local community. Malicious incidents involving chemical agents sometimes trigger high public concern. We aimed to (1) identify levels of emotion, perceived risk and behaviour change with regard to visiting Salisbury, 1 month after three

The use of known agents in warfare is banned under the Chemical Weapons Convention of 1997. agents are considered more potent than VX gas and can be applied in unitary and binary forms. There are three groups, the so-called G agents, V agents, and A agents. The most important G agents are tabun (GA), sarin (GB), soman (GD), and cyclosarin (GF). The V agents are represented mainly by VX. The A agents, also called “Novichok” agents, are the newest

attention to Novichok, the series of Soviet-era drugs believed to be some of the most dangerous nerve agents ever created. Nerve agents are highly lethal toxins that have been implicated in a number of chemical warfare attacks in the past, as we’ve recently seen in Syria. Given the acuity of how these toxins act, it is important that those at the frontline be prepared to handle these types . The Novichok family was created as binary agents, meaning the chemicals required to synthesize the toxin are stored separately and mixed on-scene rather than in a laboratory. These agents are some of the most deadly, believed to be 5-10x as potent as the G or V series.Pathophysiology:Nerve agents are highly toxic and act rapidly, entering the body in the form of a gas, aerosol or liquid through inhalation

Organophosphorus nerve agent poisoning: managing the poisoned patient. Organophosphorus (OP) nerve agent poisoning made the headlines in 2018 with the nerve agent 'Novichok' poisonings in Salisbury, England. This event highlighted a gap in the knowledge of most clinicians in the UK. In response, this special article aims to enlighten and signpost anaesthetists and intensivists towards the general Hospital performed admirably in treating those affected by Novichok nerve agent poisoning. We eagerly anticipate their future clinical publications so that the medical community might learn from their valuable experiences.
