Suicidal ideation, attempt and associated factors among prisoners in Northwest Ethiopia: A cross-sectional study. Suicide is a prominent source of harm and death globally, and it is the leading cause of premature death among prisoners. Therefore, the main aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with suicidal ideation and attempt among prisoners in Northwest Ethiopia. An institution-based cross-sectional study design was performed from May 23 to June 22, 2022. After proportional allocation to the three correctional institutions, a total of 788 study participants were randomly recruited. The World Health Organization Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI) was used to evaluate suicide ideation and attempt. To determine factors associated

Suicidal ideation and associated factors among pregnant women attending antenatal care at public hospitals of Harari regional state, eastern Ethiopia: A cross-sectional study. Suicide is a global issue. It is the third responsible for death among the reproductive age group. Pregnancy is a complicated event and crucial in the life of a woman with considerable physiological, hormonal changes , social, and mental changes. However, third-world countries like Ethiopia have not been investigated well. Therefore, the study planned to assess the magnitude and factors associated with suicidal ideation. Furthermore, it will identify the role of hyperemesis gravidarum on suicidal ideation. A Cross-sectional study was employed for 543 pregnant participants attending antenatal care at Hiwot Fana

Decreased odds of depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation with higher education, depending on sex and employment status. Higher education is associated with reduced depressive symptoms and requires investment without guaranteed employment. It remains unclear how sex and employment status together contribute to the association between mental health and educational attainment. This study investigated the role of sex and employment status together in the associations of 1) depressive symptoms and 2) suicidal ideation with education. Using 2005-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data, cross-sectional analyses were conducted on individuals ≥20 years who completed the depression questionnaire and reported their employment status and highest level of education. The association between urinary incontinence and suicidal ideation: Findings from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Urinary incontinence (UI) might be linked to suicidal ideation, but we do not yet have all the relevant details. This study aimed to dig deeper into the connection between UI and suicidal ideation using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). We examined 31,891 participants aged ≥ 20 years from NHANES 2005-2018 who provided complete information. We used standardized surveys to check for UI and signs of suicidal ideation. To better understand this relationship, we used statistical tools such as multivariable logistic regression, subgroup analysis, and sensitivity analyses. Among the 31,891 participants, 28.9% reported UI

High overcommitment and low reward as potential predictors for increased depressive symptoms, suicidal ideation, and suicide risk in German veterinarians. Higher rates of depression, suicidal ideation and suicide risk have been reported for veterinarians in Germany. In this study, several demographic and job-related factors were examined to determine whether they could be considered possible predictors of depression, suicidal ideation, and suicide risk. For this purpose, a survey was conducted among veterinarians in Germany. The demographic factors surveyed were gender, age, working status (employed/self-employed), income, field of work (practicing/non-practicing veterinarian), weekly working hours and community size. For assessing job-related factors, the Effort-Reward-Imbalance questionnaire

An exploration of suicidal ideation and attempts, and care use and unmet need among suicide-ideators in a Belgian population study. Suicidal ideation, or thinking about death and suicide, is common across all layers of society. The aim of this paper is to add to the understanding of suicidal ideation in the general population, as well as help-seeking behaviors and perceived unmet mental health or via a postal paper questionnaire. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to explore the association between both current suicidal ideation and self-reported lifetime suicide attempt with the sociodemographic factors age, gender, educational level, origin and financial distress. Moreover, formal care use for mental health was examined among those experiencing suicidal

Assessment and analysis of factors influencing suicidal ideation in young adults: a large cohort study using an elastic network logistic regression model. This study aims to review and analyze factors associated with suicidal ideation to provide a rationale for subsequent effective interventions. Data from this study were obtained from the Assessing Nocturnal Sleep/Wake Effects on Risk coefficients. In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, INQ-15 perceived burdensomeness (PB) scores (OR: 1.10, 95% CI: 1.04-1.17), CESD depression mood scores (OR: 1.16, 95% CI: 1.07-1.26), and age (OR: 0.72, 95% CI: 0.55-0.94) were significant factors for SI. This is the first study to use an Elastic Network logistic regression model to assess the factors affecting suicidal ideation in young adults

Onset and offset of nonsuicidal self-injury prospectively associates with emotion regulation and suicide ideation in adolescents. Suicide ideation and attempts are increasing for individuals between the ages of 15 and 24. Emotion dysregulation is a common factor that has been linked to many risky behaviors including NSSI and suicidal ideation. The current study aimed to longitudinally examine how the onset and offset of NSSI associated with changes in emotion regulation domains and suicidal ideation in a community sample of adolescents. Participants between the ages of 14-17 were asked about NSSI, emotion regulation, and suicide ideation at baseline and 6-month follow-up. Most adolescents reported no NSSI at either timepoint (n = 316; 83 %); 5 % (n = 20) reported NSSI at both time points

Effects of electroconvulsive therapy on functional connectome abnormalities in adolescents with depression and suicidal ideation. Major depressive disorder (MDD) in adolescents is associated with an increased risk of suicide, and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is an effective treatment for MDD and suicidal ideation. To investigate underlying central mechanisms, this study examined functional connectome topological organization in adolescents with MDD and suicidal ideation prior to and following ECT. Resting-state fMRI images were collected from 28 adolescents with MDD and suicidal ideation and 31 demographically similar healthy adolescents. Whole-brain functional networks were constructed and topological metrics were analyzed using graph theory approaches. Prior to ECT, depressed adolescents
