The usefulness of heart rate variability in adolescents with tic disorder: Focused on interplay with quality of life. Tic disorders, characterized by involuntary movements or vocalizations, are influenced by neurological and psychological factors. Although an imbalance in neurotransmitter systems, genetic factors, and environmental influences play a significant role in the expression of tic disorders, the precise mechanisms through which autonomic changes influence tic production are not fully understood yet. This study investigates the relationship between tic disorders and heart rate variability (HRV), a physiological marker of autonomic nervous system function. The study sought to identify correlations among tic symptoms, HRV indices, and perceived quality of life. In a cohort of 69

Rapid Compensation for Noisy Voluntary Movements in Adults with Primary Tic Disorders. It has been proposed that tics and premonitory urges in primary tic disorders (PTD), like Tourette syndrome, are a manifestation of sensorimotor noise. However, patients with tics show no obvious movement imprecision in everyday life. One reason could be that patients have strategies to compensate for noise

The Effect of Nabiximols on Driving Ability in Adults with Chronic Tic Disorders: Results of a Substudy Analysis of the Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled CANNA-TICS Trial. The multicenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, phase IIIb CANNA-TICS (CANNAbinoids in the treatment of TICS) trial showed clear trends for improvement of tics, depression, and quality of life with nabiximols versus placebo in adult patients with Gilles de la Tourette syndrome and other chronic tic disorders. Although in general nabiximols was well tolerated, it is unclear whether treatment using this cannabis extract influences driving skills in patients with chronic tic disorders. Here we report results of the "Fitness to Drive" substudy of the CANNA-TICS trial. The key endpoint was fitness

Tic disorder in allergic rhinitis children and adolescents: a case-control study. Allergic rhinitis is the most common allergic disease. It can accompany psychological disorders such as tic disorders due to the prolonged course of the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. This pioneer case-control study aims to investigate tic disorders in children and adolescents under 18 years of age diagnosed with allergic rhinitis. The case group in this study consisted of patients who had both allergic rhinitis and tic disorders. Patients with allergic rhinitis without tic disorders were also enrolled as the control group with matched gender and age. Demographic characteristics, tic classifications, and contributing factors for allergic rhinitis and tic disorders were studied among the cases. Tic disorders were

Effect of acupuncture on tic disorder: a randomized controlled clinical trial based on energy metabolomics and infrared thermography. Acupuncture is a method for treating tic disorder. However, there is a lack of sufficient clinical objective basis in regards of its treatment efficacy. Indeed, there are structural abnormalities present in energy metabolism and infrared thermography in children with tic disorder. Therefore, this study proposes a clinical trial scheme to explore the possible mechanism of acupuncture in treating tic disorder. This randomized controlled trial will recruit a total of 90 children, in which they will be divided into non-intervention group and intervention group. The non-intervention group consists of 30 healthy children while the intervention group consists of 60

Exploring the psychometric properties of the premonitory urge for tics scale (PUTS) and its association with psychiatric symptoms in Chinese children with tic disorders. The Premonitory Urge for Tics Scale (PUTS) is a common self-report measure of premonitory urges for patients with tic disorders. This study aims to evaluate the Chinese version of the PUTS (PUTS-C) and to explore its association with psychiatric symptoms in Chinese children diagnosed with tic disorders. The psychometric evaluation involved 204 outpatients with tic disorders, aged 7-16 years, who were divided into two age groups: (7-10 years, n = 103; 11-16 years, n = 95). The PUTS-C demonstrated good internal consistency (McDonald'sω = 0.84) and two-week test-retest reliability (0.76). We observed a statistically significant correlation

Healthcare utilisation and costs associated with poor access to diagnosis and treatment for children and young people with tic disorders. There are no specific national guidelines in England to guide healthcare professionals in how to assess or treat young people with tic disorders. Access to evidence-based treatment, including behavioural therapy, is of limited availability. This study examined the economic impact on services arising from a lack of access to appropriate healthcare services for young people with tic disorders, alongside the impact on school attendance. This study used data from the randomised controlled trial 'ORBIT' (Online Remote Behavioural Intervention for Tics). ORBIT compared online exposure and response prevention behavioural therapy for tics with online psychoeducation
