A case of gamasoidosis associated with exposure to a wild lorikeet feeding tray. Gamasoidosis (acariasis, avian-mite dermatitis or bird-mite dermatitis) is caused by members of the mite superfamily Dermanyssoidea. The mites lay their eggs on the nest of the birds they feed on. The also leave the nest and feed on humans if there is no bird host available. The bites result in urticated plaques

Gamasoidosis illustrated - from the nest to dermoscopy Gamasoidosis (acariasis, avian-mite dermatitis or bird-mite dermatitis) is a challenging diagnosis that is becoming more common because of the frequent use of window air conditioners in tropical countries. These devices may serve as shelters for nests of urban birds such as pigeons. Dermatologists should become familiar with this infestation

Endectocidal efficacies of doramectin in naturally parasitized pigs. The studies reported here were conducted to investigate the effectiveness of doramectin, given intramuscularly at the rate of 300 micrograms kg-1 of bodyweight, in the treatment of naturally acquired porcine nematodosis and acariasis. Twenty pigs demonstrated to be naturally infected with pulmonary and gastrointestinal nematodes

An effective indirect fluorescent antibody test for diagnosis of intestinal acariasis. Adult mites' bodies of Dermatophagoides farinae were used as antigen in an indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT) to detect mite-specific IgG in sera of 48 patients with intestinal acariasis based on stool examination. Antibody titers with positive reaction ranged from 1:4 to 1:512 in 48 patients with intestinal acariasis. If antibody titers > or = 1:16 is regarded as being positive, the positive rate of patients detected with IFAT was 92%.
