Panenteric capsule endoscopy in gastrointestinal bleeding - time to change old habits? Capsule endoscopy (CE) is an effective tool for small bowel evaluation. Recent technical advancements, including long-lasting batteries and enhanced optics, have enabled featured capsules (panenteric capsules, PCs) to potentially assess the entire gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The PC provides a potential easy

Effect of different anticoagulants and antiplatelets on intraoral bleeding time during professional oral hygiene session. Patients with thromboembolic problems, prosthetic valves, or coagulation issues are commonly prescribed anticoagulants and antiplatelets. Anticoagulant and antiplatelet medication might constitute a challenge for dentists and dental hygienists since possible prolonged , rivaroxaban) VKA: vitamin K antagonists (warfarin, acenocoumarol) SAPT: single anti-platelet therapy (acetylsalicylic acid or clopidogrel) DAPT: dual anti-platelet therapy (acetylsalicylic acid and clopidogrel). Bleeding time was measured in seconds and mean values were assessed among the different groups. Differences between groups were investigated with Kruskal-Wallis test followed by Dunn's post-hoc

Estimation of Platelet Count and Bleeding Time of Mice Treated with Musa paradisiaca var. sapientum (L.) Kuntze Extract. The aim of this study was to estimate the platelet count and bleeding time on peripheral blood smear of mice tail wound using var. sapientum (L.) (ambonese banana stem extract). Randomized post-test-only control group design. Twenty-four male mice (Mus Musculus) were time were analyzed by one-way ANOVA statistical software. Tranexamic acid had no significant effect on platelets count compared to CMC group (p = 0.871), but administration of aspirin resulted in low platelets count significantly (p = 0.003). The platelet counts of ABSE and CMC groups were not significant different (p = 0.937). Aspirin has significantly shown prolonged bleeding time than CMC

Effect of the arterial needle bevel position on puncture pain and postremoval bleeding time in hemodialysis patients: A self-controlled, single-blind study. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the bevel orientation (facing upwards or downwards towards the skin) of the needle inserted into the arterial limb of the arteriovenous fistula (AVF) on puncture pain and postremoval bleeding inserted in the direction of blood flow. At each dialysis session, cannulation pain was measured using a visual analog scale (VAS), and the bleeding time at the end of dialysis after needle removal was recorded. The VAS score and postremoval bleeding time were lower when the needle bevel pointed downwards towards the skin during insertion (P < 0.05). Insertion of the needle with the bevel pointed

EGb 761(®) Does Not Affect Blood Coagulation and Bleeding Time in Patients with Probable Alzheimer's Dementia-Secondary Analysis of a Randomized, Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Trial. Following reports of bleeding upon Ginkgo intake, we assessed whether Ginkgo extract EGb 761 affects coagulation or platelet function or increases the risk of bleeding. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial , prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, international normalized ratio and bleeding time were measured in patients with Alzheimer's dementia at baseline, weeks 6 and 26. A total of 513 patients were randomized to 120 mg ( = 169) or 240 mg EGb 761 ( = 170) or placebo ( = 174). No relevant changes were found for coagulation parameters and bleeding time. Effects of concomitant use of prasugrel with edoxaban on bleeding time, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacokinetics of edoxaban in healthy elderly Japanese male subjects: a clinical pharmacology study. Dual therapy with a direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) plus a P2Y receptor inhibitor is recommended in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation who undergo percutaneous coronary intervention. Thus , we evaluated the effects of DOAC edoxaban plus P2Y receptor inhibitor prasugrel on bleeding time (BT), and pharmacodynamics (PD) and pharmacokinetics (PK) of edoxaban in healthy elderly Japanese male subjects. A single-center, clinical pharmacology study with randomized, open-label, repeated dosing enrolled 24 participants in two groups of 12 receiving 30 mg edoxaban once daily for 3 days; then 30

Effect of Vorapaxar Alone and in Combination with Aspirin on Bleeding Time and Platelet Aggregation in Healthy Adult Subjects. The effect of the protease-activated receptor-1 (PAR-1) antagonist vorapaxar on human bleeding time is not known. This was a randomized, two-period, open-label trial in healthy men (n = 31) and women (n = 5). In period 1, subjects received 81 mg aspirin q.d . or a vorapaxar regimen achieving steady-state plasma concentrations equivalent to chronic 2.5 mg q.d. doses, for 7 days. In period 2, each group added 7 days of the therapy alternate to that of period 1 without washout. Bleeding time and platelet aggregation using arachidonic acid, ADP, and TRAP agonists were assessed. Bleeding time geometric mean ratio (90% CI) for vorapaxar/baseline was 1.01 (0.88-1.15

A swine model of acute thrombocytopenia with prolonged bleeding time produced by busulfan Animal models of thrombocytopenia are indispensable for evaluating the in vivo efficacy of hemostatic agents, cryopreserved platelets, and artificial platelets, but no large animal models are available. In this study, we generated a swine model of acute thrombocytopenia with prolonged bleeding times , and their nadirs at day 15 (on average). The minimal platelet count was 14,000/µl. With this dose of busulfan (6 mg/kg), bleeding times were significantly prolonged in addition to the decrease in platelet counts (r=-0.63, P<0.01), while there were no cases of apparent hemorrhage. White blood cell counts were maintained at over 5,000/µl, and there were no infections or other adverse events including anemia

Novel mouse hemostasis model for real-time determination of bleeding time and hemostatic plug composition. Hemostasis is a rapid response by the body to stop bleeding at sites of vessel injury. Both platelets and fibrin are important for the formation of a hemostatic plug. Mice have been used to uncover the molecular mechanisms that regulate the activation of platelets and coagulation under

The effect of desmopressin on bleeding time and platelet aggregation in healthy volunteers administered ticagrelor. Ticagrelor is a reversibly binding and selective P2Y12 -receptor antagonist approved for the prevention of atherothrombotic events in patients with acute coronary syndromes. As bleeding events remain a hazard with antiplatelet therapy, this study investigated the effect of the vasopressin agonist, desmopressin, on ticagrelor-induced bleeding time prolongation. Desmopressin has previously been shown to improve primary haemostasis and is widely used as first-line therapy for individuals with bleeding disorders. In a randomized, double-blind, 2-period crossover study, healthy volunteers received ticagrelor (270 mg loading dose; 180 mg bid) for 5 days. On Day 5, desmopressin (0·3 μg
