Effect of immunisation against angiotensin II with CYT006-AngQb on ambulatory blood pressure: a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled phase IIa study. Hypertension can be controlled adequately with existing drugs such as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers. Nevertheless, treatment success is often restricted by patients not adhering to treatment . Immunisation against angiotensin II could solve this problem. We investigated the safety and efficacy of CYT006-AngQb-a vaccine based on a virus-like particle-that targets angiotensin II to reduce ambulatory blood pressure. In this multicentre, double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled phase IIa trial, 72 patients with mild-to-moderate hypertension were randomly assigned with a computer-generated

. Only one controlled clinical trial (CCT) (phase II) was recovered that had high methodological quality, and which studied the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine (CYT006-AngQb) for the treatment of moderate arterial hypertension (3140/90 mmHg). In addition, the results obtained with two different doses were analysed (100 μg and 300 μg . ..

Description Study Design Arms and Interventions Outcome Measures Eligibility Criteria Contacts and Locations More Information Brief Summary: The study medication CYT006-AngQb is a vaccine, consisting of angiotensin II (Ang II), the naturally occurring octapeptide coupled onto the surface of virus-like particles (VLP). This form of presenting Ang II to the immune system induces a B-cell mediated immune response characterized by the generation of specific antibodies (IgG and IgM) against Ang II. The CYT006-AngQb vaccine is administered by subcutaneous (s.c.) injection. Immunization against angiotensin II may offer a valuable alternative to conventional drugs for the treatment of hypertension.Condition or disease Intervention/treatment Phase Mild
