30-day Morbidity and Mortality after Cholecystectomy for Benign Gallbladder Disease (AMBROSE): A Prospective, International Collaborative Cohort Study. This study aimed to assess 30-day morbidity and mortality rates following cholecystectomy for benign gallbladder disease and identify the factors associated with complications. Although cholecystectomy is common for benign gallbladder disease , there is a gap in the knowledge of the current practice and variations on a global level. A prospective, international, observational collaborative cohort study of consecutive patients undergoing cholecystectomy for benign gallbladder disease from participating hospitals in 57 countries between January 1 and June 30, 2022, was performed. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used

Hypoglycemic drugs, circulating inflammatory proteins, and gallbladder diseases: A mediation mendelian randomization study. The relationship of hypoglycemic drugs, inflammatory proteins and gallbladder diseases remain unknown. Four hypoglycemic drugs were selected as exposure: glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA), dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4i), sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT-2i), and metformin. The outcome were two gallbladder diseases: cholecystitis and cholelithiasis. Mendelian Randomization (MR) was employed to determine the association between hypoglycemic drugs and gallbladder diseases. DPP-4i and SGLT-2i had no effect on cholecystitis and cholelithiasis. However, a causal relationship was found between inhibition of ETFDH gene, a target

The purpose of this nationwide registry-based cohort study was to outline pancreatic cancer risk after benign gallbladder disease (GBD). Anatomically adjacent cancers were investigated to address incidental findings. We included all Swedes aged 20-79 years with histologically confirmed GBD

Gallbladder disease is associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease among Uyghurs in Xinjiang: a prospective cohort study. Gallbladder disease (GBD) can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, GBD has rarely been reported in the less developed, rural areas of Xinjiang. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of GBD and incidence of CVD in a prospective cohort study

Gallbladder Disease and Risk of Type 2 Diabetes in Postmenopausal Women: A Women's Health Initiative Study. Studies have suggested that adults with gallbladder disease have increased risk of type 2 diabetes. This prospective cohort study assessed the risk of type 2 diabetes in postmenopausal women with gallbladder disease. Data from women enrolled in the Women's Health Initiative from 1993 to 2005, aged 50-79 years (mean = 63.2; standard deviation, 7.2), were analyzed. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to estimate the risk of type 2 diabetes associated with gallbladder disease. There were 8,896 new cases of type 2 diabetes after 1,025,486 person-years of follow-up. Gallbladder disease was significantly associated with type 2 diabetes (hazard ratio = 1.52; 95% confidence

Association of gallbladder diseases with risk of gastrointestinal polyps. It has not yet been determined whether gastroscopy and colonoscopy screening help patients with gallbladder diseases. We aim to retrospectively investigate the relationship between gallbladder diseases and gastrointestinal polyps in order to provide a theoretical basis for the early screening of gastrointestinal polyps in patients with gallbladder disease. This is a retrospective cross-sectional study involving 1662 patients who underwent gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and abdominal ultrasound as part of their health check-up from January 2015 to July 2020. We also compared the patients with and without gallbladder diseases to determine the prevalence of gastrointestinal polyps. Patients with gallbladder polyps had greater

One potential complication of gallbladder disease is that gallstones can pass into the common bile duct (CBD) where they may remain dormant, pass spontaneously into the bowel or cause problems such as obstructive jaundice or pancreatitis. Patients requiring LC are assessed preoperatively for their risk of CBD stones using liver function tests and imaging. If the risk is high, guidelines recommend further

Study on the Relation between Colorectal Cancer and Gall Bladder Disease Colorectal cancer is cancer of the large intestine, the lower part of digestive system which includes the sigmoid colon and rectum. To study the relation of incidence of colorectal cancer with previous gall bladder disease or post-cholecystectomy status, a relation between gall bladder disease and smoking in particular and the most common region of colon involved in colorectal cancer in gall bladder disease and non-gall bladder disease patients. A total of 256 patients with symptoms of rectal bleeding, change in bowel habit, unexplained tiredness, weight loss, pelvic pain, jaundice and abdominal distension were screened by using colonoscopy among whom 30 patients were diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Following cholecystectomy, gallbladder specimens are generally submitted for histopathologic examination and the diagnostic yield of this strategy remains questionable

Association of Bile Duct and Gallbladder Diseases With the Use of Incretin-Based Drugs in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus The use of dipeptidyl-peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) analogues-a group of drugs used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus-may be associated with an increased risk of bile duct and gallbladder disease. To date , no observational study has assessed this possible association. Association between helicobacter pylori infection and gallbladder diseases: a retrospective study. The association between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and gallbladder diseases is still unclear and is controversial. We conducted a retrospective study to clarify the prevalence of gallbladder diseases and factors related to gallbladder diseases and relationships between H. pylori infection , gallstones, cholecystitis, and cholecystic polypus. The retrospective study was performed at the Aerospace Center Hospital in Beijing. The subjects in this study were a healthy population who underwent health examinations at the hospital between 2012 and 2015. The logistic regression models were used to explore the relationships between H. pylori infection and gallbladder diseases. There were 7803 (43.4

Vegetable protein intake is associated with lower gallbladder disease risk: findings from the Women's Health Initiative prospective cohort. This study aimed to measure associations between gallbladder disease and protein intake patterns, separated by quantity and type (vegetable vs. animal), among postmenopausal women. Analyses were based on 130,859 postmenopausal women enrolled from 1993 to 1998 at 40 U.S. clinical centers in the Women's Health Initiative clinical trials and observational study. Women were excluded if they reported a history of gallbladder disease prior to baseline. The increasing incidence of gallbladder disease in children: A 20year perspective. The incidence of cholecystectomy in the pediatric population has increased over the last 20years but has not been described in a Canadian population. A population-based, retrospective cohort using in the incidence of pediatric cholecystectomy in Ontario over the last 20years. The majority of surgeries are performed in the community, and pediatricians will likely see an increase of gallbladder disease in practice.
