Leukopenia and thrombocytopenia in dengue patients presenting in the emergency department of a tertiary center in Nepal: a cross-sectional study. Dengue viruses cause either symptomatic infections or asymptomatic seroconversion. Symptomatic dengue has a wide clinical spectrum ranging from self-limiting infection to severe manifestations, mostly characterized by plasma leakage with or without hemorrhage. World Health Organization classification in 2009 classified dengue into dengue without warning signs, dengue with warning signs, and severe dengue. This study aimed to determine patient characteristics and hematological parameters (leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia) in patients with dengue infection in the emergency department of a tertiary center. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 252

Leukopenia, neutropenia, and procalcitonin levels in young febrile infants with invasive bacterial infections. Serum procalcitonin (PCT) is a highly accurate biomarker for stratifying the risk of invasive bacterial infections (IBIs) in febrile infants ≤60 days old. However, PCT is unavailable in some settings. We explored the association of leukopenia and neutropenia with IBIs in non-critically ill febrile infants ≤60 days old, with and without PCT. We conducted a secondary analysis of a prospective observational cohort consisting of 7407 non-critically ill infants ≤60 days old with temperatures ≥38°C. We focused on the risk of IBIs in patients with leukopenia (white blood cell [WBC] count <5000 cells/μL) or neutropenia (absolute neutrophil count [ANC] <1000 cells/μL), categorized

[Intradermal needling and acupuncture in prevention and treatment of leukopenia after chemotherapy with spleen-kidney deficiency: a randomized controlled trial]. To compare the clinical effect of intradermal needling and acupuncture in prevention and treatment of leukopenia after chemotherapy with spleen-kidney deficiency. A total of 90 patients with malignant tumor who received chemotherapy of 2 weeks in the three groups. The white blood cell count, neutrophil count, hemoglobin content, platelet count and Karnofsky performance status (KPS) score before treatment and on 3rd, 7th, 14th, and 21st days after treatment were compared among the three groups. The incidence and grading of leukopenia and the usage of leukocyte-boosting drug during chemotherapy cycle was recorded. On 7th day after

Spleen Volume Reduction Is a Reliable and Independent Biomarker for Long-Term Risk of Leukopenia Development in Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy. Lu-DOTATATE therapy is an effective treatment for advanced neuroendocrine tumors, despite its dose-limiting hematotoxicity. Herein, the significance of off-target splenic irradiation is unknown. Our study aims to identify predictive markers of peptide receptor radionuclide therapy-induced leukopenia. We retrospectively analyzed blood counts and imaging data of 88 patients with histologically confirmed, unresectable metastatic neuroendocrine tumors who received Lu-DOTATATE treatment at our institution from February 2009 to July 2021. Inclusion criterium was a tumor uptake equivalent to or greater than that in the liver on baseline receptor

Current practice for clozapine-induced leukopenia in Japanese psychiatric hospitals: A nationwide survey. Clozapine is an atypical antipsychotic used for treatment-resistant schizophrenia. In Japan, its use requires management by a blood monitoring system called the Clozaril Patient Monitoring Service (CPMS) for the early detection of serious side effects such as agranulocytosis, which with hematologists when agranulocytosis/leukopenia occurs. Hence, we conducted a nationwide web-based survey of CPMS-registered psychiatric facilities in Japan to determine the status of collaboration with hematology departments. Valid responses were received from the psychiatrists responsible for prescribing clozapine at 203 of the 547 facilities (response rate: 37.1 %). The largest number of psychiatric

This study's objective was to investigate the predictors for severe anemia, severe leukopenia, and severe thrombocytopenia when amphotericin B deoxycholate-based induction therapy is used in HIV-infected patients with talaromycosis. A total of 170 HIV-infected patients with talaromycosis were enrolled from January 1st, 2019, to September 30th, 2020. Approximately 42.9%, 20.6%, and 10.6% of the enrolled patients developed severe anemia, severe leukopenia, and severe thrombocytopenia, respectively. Clinical Efficacy of Potato Extract for Alleviating Chemoradiotherapy-Related Leukopenia: a Randomized, Single-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial. Leukopenia is the most common adverse event in chemotherapy, which natural products can prevent and treat. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical efficacy of potato extract for alleviating chemoradiotherapy-induced leukopenia in cancer tumor response rate, blood test, and quality of life score. The leukopenia was relieved in the potato extract group compared with the placebo group. Of note, a significant difference in leukopenia between the two groups was found after 14 days (p = 0.04). In addition, there was no statistically significant difference in leucocyte levels in the potato extract group (before and after potato extract

Effect of Shenqi Fuzheng Injection on Leukopenia and T-cell Subsets in Patients with Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Undergoing Radiotherapy. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of Shenqi fuzheng injection on leukopenia and T-cell subsets in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) undergoing radiotherapy. A total of 124 patients with advanced NSCLC treated in the oncology department of our hospital from January 2017 to January 2019 were included and assigned at a ratio of 1 : 1 to receive conventional radiotherapy (control group,  = 62) or conventional radiotherapy plus Shenqi Fuzheng injection (study group,  = 62) via the random number table method. Effect of leukopenia induced by cyclophosphamide on the initial stage of arterial thrombosis in mice. Leukocytes are found in organizing thrombi and are associated with thrombus growth. However, their role in the initial stage of thrombus formation is not well known. We investigated the role of leukocytes in the early stage of arterial thrombosis by inducing leukopenia. In this double-blind %, and 34.3%, respectively. Time to occlusion had a moderate negative correlation with leukocyte count in peripheral blood (r = -0.326, P = 0.022) in the entire group. Cyclophosphamide-induced leukopenia attenuated thrombus formation during the early stage of arterial thrombosis. Our findings suggest the potential role of leukocytes in the initial stage of arterial thrombosis.

Genetic association of gemcitabine/carboplatin-induced leukopenia and neutropenia in non-small cell lung cancer patients using whole-exome sequencing. Gemcitabine/carboplatin treatment is known to cause severe adverse drug reactions which can lead to the need for reduction or cessation of chemotherapy. It would be beneficial to identify patients at risk of severe hematological toxicity in advance before treatment start. This study aims to identify genetic markers for gemcitabine/carboplatin-induced leukopenia and neutropenia in non-small cell lung cancer patients. Whole-exome sequencing was performed on 215 patients. Association analysis was performed on single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) and genes, and the validation was based on an independent genome-wide association study (GWAS). Based

The Rate of Infectious Complications After Intrathecal Drug Delivery System Implant for Cancer-Related Pain Is Low Despite Frequent Concurrent Anticancer Treatment or Leukopenia. The efficacy of intrathecal drug delivery (IDD) for cancer-related pain is well established. Cancer therapies are often associated with immunosuppression and increased risk of infection, and the rate of infection after intrathecal drug delivery system (IDDS) implant in cancer patients has been reported as 2.4%-6.3%. Our objective is to report on the rate of surgical site infections (SSI) in patients implanted with IDDS for cancer-related pain and to provide a data-driven discussion on the relationship between antineoplastic treatment, leukopenia, and other clinical or demographic characteristics and SSI.
