[Preventing postoperative edema with Irritren. Results of a double-blind study]. In order to inhibit postoperative swelling we compared the new antiphlogistic Lonazolac-Ca with Diclofenac-Na in 20 patients each undergoing knee joint surgery. Leg volume increased in a smaller extent in the Lonazolac-Ca patients and pretreatment values were achieved on the 8th day. On the first day of physiotherapy (4th postoperative day) pain on motion was significantly less marked than before surgery in the Lonazolac-Ca group. No side-effects were observed in the Lonazolac-Ca group. One patient on Diclofenac-Na had to discontinue treatment on the 2nd day because of gastric disturbance and itching. Though both treatments showed good efficiency, Lonazolac-Ca was slightly superior.

[Action of the anti-inflammatory agent Lonazolac on experimentally-induced acute inflammation of human skin]. Using two experimental models of acute dermatitis in man, Lonazolac proved to possess dose-dependent anti-inflammatory effects. No untoward side effects were seen even at the higher doses of the drug. The results are consistent with animal studies: In its effect on the acute experimental dermatitis, Lonazolac resembles indomethacin more closely than oxyphenbutazone. It is superior to the comparable anti-inflammatory drugs in its effect on the inflammatory erythema of the skin; in its effect on the inflammatory edema of the skin, it stands between oxyphenbutazone and indomethacin.

[Double-blind comparative trial of lonazolac-Ca versus naproxen in spinal osteoarthrosis, coxarthrosis and gonarthrosis (author's transl)]. Two groups of patients, each consisting of 20 patients suffering from spinal osteoarthrosis, coxarthrosis or gonarthrosis participated in a double-blind comparative trial. They received either Lonazolac-Ca (200 mg three times daily) or Naproxen (250 mg twice daily plus 1 placebo capsule in between doses) for three weeks. The therapeutic response was assessed by monitoring pain intensity at rest and on exercise, joint tenderness and joint movement, muscular tension, morning stiffness and walking ability. In spinal osteoarthrosis vertebral flexibility was also measured. Nine out of 11 parameters showed significant improvement with Lonazolac-Ca, whereas only

[Effect of 3-(4-chlorphenyl-) 1-phenyl-1H-pyrazole-4-acetic acid (lonazolac-Ca), diclofenac-Na and indomethacin on the gastrointestinal blood loss]. According to a Latin Square-2 block study design gastrointestinal blood loss after medication with lonacolac-Ca (200 mg t.i.d.), diclofenac-Na (50 mg t.i.d.) and indomethacin (50 mg t.i.d.) was investigated in 6 healthy volunteers. Blood loss was significantly lower with lonazolac-Ca and diclofenac-Na than with indomethacin (p less than 0.001). There is no difference statistically between the two former substances.

In 9 healthy volunteers the effects of a 14-day treatment with lonazolac 300 mg b.i.d. on gastric and duodenal mucosa have been endoscopically compared with those of indomethacin 75 mg b.i.d. in a double-blind placebo-controlled trial. Lonazolac and indomethacin induced significantly more gastric and duodenal
