Astrocyte dysfunction following molybdenum-associated purine loading could initiate Parkinson’s disease with dementia Sporadic or idiopathic Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder with a worldwide distribution, a long pre-clinical latent period and a frequent association with dementia. The combination of molybdenum deficiency and purine ingestion could explain the movement disorder , the distribution, the latent period and the dementia association. Recent studies in sheep have shown that molybdenum deficiency enables some dietary purines to accumulate in the central nervous system. This causes astrocyte dysfunction, altered neuromodulation and eventually irreversible central nervous system disease. Humans and sheep share the ability to salvage purines and this ability places humans at risk

. Resting cells cultivated in a molybdenum-deficient medium had low nicotine transformation activity, and excess molybdenum was detected in the purified VppA by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry analysis. Thus, it is demonstrated that VppA is a two-component molybdenum-containing hydroxylase.

This study is a case-control field-study in which students aged between 6 and 12 years were included. cattle are continually exposed to oral doses > or = 12 mg of Cu/kg of bm/d. It was also concluded that cattle can probably tolerate oral doses of < or = 0.6 mg of Cu/kg of bm/d for an indefinite period, provided there are no other sources of copper, such as may occur with air-pollution, or provided no other adverse mineral interactions occur, such as may occur with molybdenum deficiency.

Evidence for a Role of Calcium in Nitrate Assimilation in Wheat Seedlings Severely Ca-deficient Triticum aestivum L. seedlings accumulated high levels of nitrite and moderate levels of nitrate and organic nitrogen, but contained unaltered levels of hydroxylamine. Nitrite accumulation was not related to molybdenum deficiency, or altered cellular pH. Nitrate reductase was decreased by Ca deficiency

not directly influence the thermodynamic efficiency of Nitrobacter. The efficiency of molybdenum-deficient cultures and of cultures supplied with the micronutrient declined equally during the early stage of development, despite large differences in the amount of nitrite consumed. After the utilization of about 100 mumoles of nitrite per ml, cultures supplied with molybdenum became relatively less efficient
