Effect of sleep on weight loss and adherence to diet and physical activity recommendations during an 18-month behavioral weight loss intervention. To examine the association between indices of sleep quantity and quality with dietary adherence, physical activity adherence, and weight loss during a behavioral weight loss intervention. Adults (n = 156) with overweight and obesity (40 ± 9 years, 84 effects models examined the association between sleep and weight change over time. Additional models were adjusted for covariates including age, BMI, sex, race, ethnicity, study completion, randomization, EI, and physical activity. Secondary analyses examined the association between sleep and adherence to diet and physical activity recommendations. Mean weight loss was 7.7 ± 5.4, 8.4 ± 7.9, and 7.1

Behavioural mediators of reduced energy intake in a physical activity, diet, and sleep behaviour weight loss intervention in adults. Reduced energy intake is a major driver of weight loss and evidence suggests that physical activity, dietary, and sleep behaviours interact to influence energy intake. Energy restriction can be challenging to sustain. Therefore to improve intervention efficacy

Project STARLIT: protocol of a longitudinal study of habitual sleep trajectories, weight gain, and obesity risk behaviors in college students. Obesity in the United States is a serious and preventable health concern. Previous research suggests that habitual short sleep may influence obesity-risk behaviors, such as increased caloric intake, decreased physical activity and increased engagement composition) and subjective (i.e., sleep diary, 24-h food recall, technology use, and sleep-related beliefs/behaviors) measures. Project STARLIT is designed to address methodological concerns of previous research. In addition to clarifying the relationship between habitual short sleep and weight gain among young adults, the proposed study will identify problematic obesity risk behaviors associated

The use of entertainment and communication technologies before sleep could affect sleep and weight status: a population-based study among children Short sleep duration and poor sleep quality have been demonstrated to be associated with childhood obesity. It has been suggested that electronic entertainment and communication devices (EECDs) including TVs, computers, tablets, video games and cell phones interfere with sleep in children and youth. The aim of this study was to assess the impact that the use of EECDs in the hour before bedtime has on sleep and weight status to inform sleep promotion interventions and programs to prevent childhood obesity. A provincially representative sample of 2334 grade 5 children and their parents in Alberta, Canada was surveyed. Parents reported their child's

The relation between sleep and weight in a suburban sleep center: observations and speculations on apnea and weight The relationship between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and body weight is not clearly established. In order to describe the relationship of weight and OSA severity seen in a suburban sleep center, an observational review was performed of initial diagnostic polysomnograms (PSGs

We evaluated the effect of melatonin supplementation on the nutritional status of postmenopausal women. The study included 56 women (51-65 years) and 25 healthy women (27-36 years). The emotional state was assessed using Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), the quality of sleep using

OSA reduces quality of life and is associated with greater risk for cardiovascular disease. Although obesity is the single greatest reversible risk factor for OSA, patients

A Large Prospective Investigation of Sleep Duration, Weight Change, and Obesity in the NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study Cohort. The relationship between sleep and obesity or weight gain in adults, particularly older populations, remains unclear. In a cohort of 83,377 US men and women aged 51-72 years, we prospectively investigated the association between self-reported sleep duration and weight

Weighted average utility values associated with avoiding sleep disturbance were calculated for foslevodopa–foscarbidopa and standard care. Also, weighted average costs associated with excessive sleepiness were calculated for the 2 arms. The treatment

SAD patients suffer not only from typical symptoms of depression, such as a depressed, low mood, lack of drive or loss of interest, and joylessness, but often also from atypical symptoms such as a ravenous appetite for carbohydrates, increased need to sleep, or weight gain [4]. Most SAD patients experience episodes of mild to moderate
