Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is a sophisticated imaging technique that can provide specific and unique information about cardiovascular structure and function. Much of the data acquired by TEE may not be obtained from other perioperative monitoring and diagnostic techniques. The position of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) is that the placement of the TEE probe and the acquisition

Transesophageal echocardiogram contributes to high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation: a case report. Difficulties to identify the cause of cardiac arrest in a short period of time lead to prolonging the time for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and to poor survival. Transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) can assist CPR of long duration and improve outcome. In this case report, a 50-year-old

Left ventricle segmentation in transesophageal echocardiography images using a deep neural network. There has been little progress in research on the best anatomical position for effective chest compressions and cardiac function during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This study aimed to divide the left ventricle (LV) into segments to determine the best position for effective chest compressions using the LV systolic function seen during CPR. We used transesophageal echocardiography images acquired during CPR. A deep neural network with an attention mechanism and a residual feature aggregation module were applied to the images to segment the LV. The results were compared between the proposed model and U-Net. The results of the proposed model showed higher performance in most metrics

Clinical Protocol for Selecting Intracardiac or Transesophageal Echocardiography-Guided Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion. Intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) has emerged as an alternative to transesophageal echo (TEE) to guide left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO). We established a protocol to select patients appropriate for ICE guidance. Patients undergoing LAAO with the Watchman or Watchman FLX

Videolaryngoscope versus conventional technique for insertion of a transesophageal echocardiography probe in intubated ICU patients (VIDLARECO trial): A randomized clinical trial. Transesophageal echocardiogram probe insertion in intubated critically ill patients can be difficult, leading to complications, such as gastric bleeding or lesions in the oropharyngeal mucosa. We hypothesised that the use of a videolaryngoscope would facilitate the first attempt at insertion of the transesophageal echocardiogram probe and would decrease the incidence of complications compared to the conventional insertion technique. In this clinical trial, patients were randomly assigned the insertion of a transesophageal echocardiogram probe using a videolaryngoscope or conventional technique. The primary

Rare complications of infective endocarditis in marfan-like morphotype: diagnosis of multiple mitral valve aneurysms and aortic root abscess using three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography. Mitral valve aneurysm (MVA) is characterized by a saccular outpouching of the mitral leaflet, and it represents a rare condition typically associated with aortic valve endocarditis. Three-Dimensional Transesophageal Echocardiography (3D-TEE) serves as an effective tool for detecting the presence of MVA and its potential complications. In this report, we present a case involving a young man with striking images of bicuspid aortic valve endocarditis complicated by an aortic root abscess and multiple perforated mitral valve aneurysms, diagnosed using 3D TEE. This case suggests the uncommon coexistence

Impact of transesophageal echocardiography dynamic monitoring of left ventricular preload on postoperative gastrointestinal function in colorectal cancer patients undergoing radical surgery. Patients undergoing intestinal tumour surgery are fasted preoperatively for a series of bowel preparations, which makes it difficult to assess the patients' volume, posing a challenge to intraoperative fluid and divided into two groups according to whether transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) was used or not during the operation, that is the goal-directed fluid therapy (GDFT) group (group T) guided by TEE and the restrictive fluid therapy group (group C). Fluid replacement was guided according to left ventricular end-diastolic volume index (LVEDVI) in group T and according to restrictive fluid replacement

Osmotherapeutic agents increase the intravascular volume by withdrawing water from the brain followed by relative hypovolemia due to diuresis leading to significant changes in systemic hemodynamics which might have adverse consequences in the elderly. We studied the effect of mannitol (20%) and hypertonic saline (HTS) (3%) on left ventricular outflow tract velocity time integral (LVOT-VTI) and cardiac output (CO) in elderly patients undergoing supratentorial neurosurgical procedures using transesophageal echocardiography. We recruited 28 patients aged above
