In general, the diameter of the base of the expander should be the same as that of the defect, while the pocket that is dissected must be larger than the unit. Most surgeons use blunt dissection (eg, fingers, urethral sounds, Metzenbaum tips) to develop the pocket to preserve the longitudinal blood supply vulnerable to sharp dissection. Treatment of overactive bladder syndrome with urethral calibration in women. Our objective was to determine whether urethral calibration with Walther's urethral sounds may be an effective treatment for overactive bladder syndrome. The diagnosis of overactive bladder syndrome is a clinical one based on the presence of urgency, with or without urge incontinence, and is usually accompanied

A Technique for the Removal of Ureteral Catheters in Infants and Children Using a Urethral Sound. We report a favorable experience with an original technique in which a urethral sound was used for the extraction of Double-J ureteral catheters in infants and children. A total of 12 children (8 females, 4 males) 6 months to 13 years old underwent extraction of a Double-J ureteral catheter under general inhalation anesthesia between March 2006 and August 2007. The catheters had been placed following pyeloplasty in 9 cases and following ureteral reimplantation in 3. Extraction was accomplished using an 8Fr, 10Fr or 12Fr urethral sound. The sound was rotated 180 degrees, thus engaging the "J" of the catheter and subsequently dragging the catheter until it emerged at the meatus. It was possible

Novel device to assist urethrovesical anastomosis during laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. We evaluated a novel urethral sound (Benique sound-Karl Storz) to assist suturing during laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. This sound provides for a more secure grip compared with the traditional sound, thereby affording controlled traction of the gland during the procedure and smooth coordinated
